Delafield has several lakes, and away from the water it is heavily wooded. Those two things account for most of what we get called about here. A lakefront house stays damp off the water; a house back under the trees never gets the sun to dry out either. Both end up in the same condition by different routes.
House washing is most of the work out here. There is a range of homes, but they are primary residences rather than seasonal places — lived in and kept up year round. What usually brings the call is not neglect, it is what the trees do: shade that keeps a wall from drying, and the insects that come with heavy woods.

A north-facing wall gets no direct sun. It stays damp after every rain, and damp plus a humid Wisconsin summer is exactly what algae and mildew want. It is almost always the worst wall on the house.
Water gets into the surface, freezes, expands and opens it up a little more each cycle. Concrete and masonry take the worst of it, and a rougher surface holds dirt better next season.
Salt off the street ends up on driveways, walks and the lower courses of siding all winter, then sits there until something washes it off.

Yes. They come off with the wash — along the soffits, up in the eaves and around every exterior light, which is where they always are. It is the complaint we hear most in Delafield and the lake towns around it, more than algae on the siding, and it is usually what prompts the call in the first place.
The season runs from the end of April through the end of October. Spring and early summer are the busiest stretch of the year, so earlier calls get more choice of date. Sanding and sealing is June through August.
