A dock sits over water all season. Spray comes up through the gaps, the underside stays damp every hour of the day, and the surface picks up the film that everything on a lake picks up. That is why a dock goes green faster than anything else on the property.
It is also the one surface people walk on barefoot and wet. A slick dock is a safety problem before it is an appearance problem, and it is the reason most of these calls come in.

Over open water we use a hydrogen peroxide solution certified under EPA’s Safer Choice program in its direct release category — the standard written for products used outdoors where the rinse reaches water without passing through treatment. The season runs from the end of April through the end of October, the same as everything else we do. For a dock the target worth aiming at is having it done before the boats go in, so you start May on a clean one rather than working around it. Spring and early summer are the busiest stretch of the year, so earlier calls get more choice of date.
