East of home base, and the closest of the towns we serve. Every Brookfield job is looked at in person before a number is given.
Brookfield sits between Milwaukee and Waukesha, and most people know it for the long runs of business along Bluemound and Capitol. Behind those strips it is residential in a way the lake towns are not — no waterfront, no heavy woods to speak of, just subdivisions, mature trees along the streets, and houses that are looked after. That changes what brings the call. Out in Lake Country it is usually something obvious. Here it is more often that a wall has drifted a shade off and started to look wrong next to the rest of the street.
It is also the closest town to home base, which matters more than it sounds. Short drives mean easier scheduling and a better chance of fitting a job in when the weather turns, which in a Wisconsin season is most of the reason a date moves at all.
Nothing dramatic here. Just the slow kind that takes a few seasons to show.
A north-facing wall gets no direct sun. It holds water after every rain, and moisture plus a humid Wisconsin summer is exactly what algae and mildew want. It is almost always the worst wall on the house.
Water gets into the surface, freezes, expands and opens it up a little more each cycle. Concrete and masonry take the worst of it, and a rougher surface holds dirt better next season.
Salt off the street ends up on driveways, walks and the lower courses of siding all winter, then sits there until something washes it off.
Tree cover keeps a house shaded and damp and drops debris into the gutters, where it holds water long after the rest of the house has dried.
On the Brookfield job on this site, the siding had years of growth on it and one section of roof had gone further — moss established in the shingles rather than staining on top of them. Growth on siding looks bad. Moss in shingles holds water against the roof and lifts the edges as it thickens.
Growth comes on slowly and evenly, so the owner stops seeing it. What people notice here is the comparison — a wall that has drifted a shade off next to neighbors who washed last year. That is usually what prompts the call.

It depends whether it is staining or moss. Staining on shingles is cosmetic. Moss is not — it holds water against the roof and thickens over time, which lifts shingle edges. That is what we found on the Brookfield job, and it came off without pressure. Pressure is how roofs get ruined; shingles have a granule surface that does not come back once it is gone.
The season runs from the end of April through the end of October. Spring and early summer are the busiest stretch of the year, so earlier calls get more choice of date. Sanding and sealing is June through August.
